Sailing… Takes me away…

Well, it's not far down to paradise, at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away and find tranquility
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.

Ahhh, yes, Christopher Cross – doesn’t he have a great voice!

Okay, back to the blog: My Dad – aka Grandpa Boat – came out this May for his annual spring thaw trip out west. Dad has a 26 foot Hunter that he tows out here from Calgary every year. Some would say it was his mid-life crisis purchase, but those people don’t know that he’s past mid-life (ha ha ha – daughter humour!).

Actually, Russ was the first person to take Dad sailing when he and the boys came for a visit Spring Break 2002. There wasn’t a lot of wind that day (a lot of rain!), and as they were heading back, Russ went below to warm up with Scott and Kevin, and Dad headed the boat into the wind – great! Except that took them the opposite direction of the marina where the boat they rented for the day was due back. Dad loves that story…

We were all VERY surprised he didn’t buy a boat on his way back home. That would have been something for Heather deal with!!! Although, one year he did fly back with a boat – a Zodiac – those things can fit into a box. That gives Heather free reign to purchase crazy things when she’s out here – just to see if she can bring it on a plane! I don’t think she can match my Dad in that – crazy – department no matter how hard she tries…

Okay, I digress…

This year, Dad came out on May 19 – late – he parks the boat in the parking lot near our place, and sleeps aboard.

Natasha and I went to wake him up so he could begin his visit with us girls. We had a great time with my Dad: talking, cuddling, walking, having lunch at the Pitt Meadows Airport
